                                    Mayor Walsh called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

                                    That the Village advise the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary that they are opposed to the amendments to the OCP and Zoning Bylaws to rezone from Rural and Airport to Industrial.

JEPP/EOC Grant       JEPP Application to make the Village Office an EOC was successful.  Project to be completed by March 1, 1999.

                                    That Council authorize the leasing of a Canon GP200F through     MFA, trading in the existing photocopier and disposing of the   existing laser printer and fax machine.

                                    That the Fax machine be donated to the Beaver Valley Library.

                                    Staff was instructed to get a price on a comparable laser printer.

 

Software Sharing       Moved by Councillor Stone

                                    That Council approve the Computer Software Sharing Agreement        with the City of Rossland in principle, pending receipt of a firm     quote on the cost of the communication linkage between the two                             communities.

                                    Seconded by Councillor Parker

 

                                    That Council approve of the MFA Lease as presented for the        computer hardware/software and training program for the Village.

Summer Student       Moved by Councillor Parker

                                    Seconded by Councillor Berriault

 

                                    That one student be hired as per the Summer Career Placement Program grant.

Authorize to Hire       Moved by Councillor Stone

Summer Student       Seconded by Councillor Parker

                                   

                                    The summer student position be advertised on the Montrose Post          Office Bulletin Board and the Village Office and the start date to        be June 1, 1998 and further that in the absence of the                                     Administrator, the Mayor, Public Works Chairman and Public Works        Foreman be authorized to hire the summer student.

                                    That the commitments and expenditures represented by the accounts payable listed below be authorized and that their payment in the amount of SEVENTY NINE THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY ONE dollars and THIRTY SIX cents ($79,121.36) in total be approved:

B.V. Fitness Centre   Moved by Councillor Clarke

                                    Seconded by Councillor Stone

 

                                    That a letter be sent to the Regional District Community Services Commission stating that the Village of Montrose supports concept of a fitness centre for the Beaver Valley to be located at the site of                                     the demolished Beaver Valley Pool and further that a copy be sent      to Brenda Deyotte

                                    Recreation Open House scheduled for Wed. May 20 is postponed         to give opportunity for all presentations to be completed.        

                                    Funding for architect proposal referred to next Commission Meeting.

                                    Advised that a petition of some 700 signatures had been received       regarding not using Lewis Park for building the Fruitvale Hall.      

                                    Reported on McElvry Creek Infrastructure

                                    Has been approached about using community service workers in          our community, re:  cleanup of recycling area.  Will look into      further

Councillor Berriault    Reported on filling times required for top and bottom tanks.

                                    the large pump on pulled on 25th. 

                                    Trucks will be checked for certification. 

                                    Blast and paint interior of top tank approximate $55,000. 

                                    Mayor Walsh requested truck be washed for May Days Parade on Saturday, May 23rd.

Councillor Parker       No report

Mayor Walsh              Verbal report that he will be speaking to the Grade4/5 class from Montrose Elementary School as the class wrote him letters regarding what should be done with the pool money.

Administrator             Absent

Deputy Clerk             Advised that alley dust control would be done on May 21st
