Home Owner Grant


Overview

The B.C. Home Owner Grant (HOG) is a provincial program that helps reduce the amount of property taxes you pay on your principal residence. Itโ€™s designed to assist homeowners, especially seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities, by lowering the school tax portion of your property taxes.


Who Qualifies?

You may qualify if:

  • You are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • You live in British Columbia
  • The property is your principal residence
  • You are the registered owner of the property

Additional grant amounts may be available if you are:

  • A senior (65 or older)
  • A veteran of certain wars
  • A person with a disability
  • Living with a spouse or relative who has a disability

How to Apply

As of 2021, municipalities no longer process Home Owner Grant applications. You must apply directly through the Province of B.C.

Apply Online:

Visit gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant

Youโ€™ll need:

  • Your roll number and jurisdiction code (found on your property tax notice)
  • Access to a device with internet

Deadline:

  • Apply by July 2 (or your local tax due date) to avoid late penalties.
