Home Owner Grant
Overview
The B.C. Home Owner Grant (HOG) is a provincial program that helps reduce the amount of property taxes you pay on your principal residence. It’s designed to assist homeowners, especially seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities, by lowering the school tax portion of your property taxes.
Who Qualifies?
You may qualify if:
- You are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- You live in British Columbia
- The property is your principal residence
- You are the registered owner of the property
Additional grant amounts may be available if you are:
- A senior (65 or older)
- A veteran of certain wars
- A person with a disability
- Living with a spouse or relative who has a disability
How to Apply
As of 2021, municipalities no longer process Home Owner Grant applications. You must apply directly through the Province of B.C.

You’ll need:
- Your roll number and jurisdiction code (found on your property tax notice)
- Access to a device with internet
Deadline:
- Apply by July 2 (or your local tax due date) to avoid late penalties.
